Body Piercing

Let’s talk about body piercing.

I have pierced ears. One hole in each ear. That’s it.

My kids are of a whole different generation and of a whole different line of thinking.

Rachel, my 19 year old, has about 9 holes in her ears.

I’ve tried to dissuade her on the multiple piercing thing but to no avail.

There is, however, something to be said about body piercing.

This week I was reminded by a bumper sticker that body piercing actually saved my life…

He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Last year, a tattoo and piercing parlor opened next door to the dojo. We are the only Christian Karate School in town. They had questionable pictures in their window. Loud and scary people walked the sidewalk in front of us to get to them. They played loud music. I prayed that they would leave. No fuss, no muss, just "Please, God, have them quietly leave."

One day, they didn't open their doors. That was three months ago. We learned that they are not coming back.

We give our daughters quite a bit of leeway in 'harmless' social customs, but neither wants a tattoo. Ears are pierced, but they never wear earrings. They seem to share my aversion to both. I have no fear that they will become painted pin cushions!

Do you run the Karate school or just attend there?
Amazing what prayer can do!!

My title is program director, but someone else owns and runs the school.

A Christian Karate school is rare, indeed.
So, are you a black belt?

Nope. There are nine steps in our style to get there, starting at #9. I got up to #7, which is not very far at all before my joints rebelled. Currently, I'm a student in a much easier class for old people! We sit in chairs and wave our arms. :)

Someone recently predicted to me that an industry that will become popular over the next several years is tattoo removal.

I went through a short phase in my early twenties of dressing fashionably (otherwise, I have avoided fashion in any form) and having my hair bleached. This was in the early 'eighties so you can only imagine how daft I looked. My dad, who was very critical and never had much faith in me, said, on one occasion, "I'm surprised you haven't had your ears pierced." I told him that I may dress oddly and have my hair bleached, but I draw the line at self-mutilation.
