For those who liked the fraction spinach story yesterday, here’s another school lesson.

Over the years as I’ve taught my kids, I’ve made up little jingles to help them remember facts.

They tell me they still sing this one when they need to remember feet and yard measurements.

Sing it to the tune of “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”. (The original verses are so much better, but I figure the Immortal, Wise God made measurements that we need to remember… so it works.)

One foot has twelve inches
One yard has three feet
One hundred centimeters in a meter, that’s neat
Now here is an answer that’s not very hard
Thirty six inches will make one fine yard

I have a whole lot more verses to this one…but it’s your turn now. Add a stanza.

I still sing this to remember how many ounces in a cup! Haha. Do you still have the songs about the different countries?

Here we go...

One cup has 8 ounces,One pint has two cups
One quart has two pints, Or also 4 cups
One gallon is easy it 16 big cups
One half gallon is easier,It's just half as much

And yes, I just recently found those country soungs. We'll have to listen to them next time you visit!

You were the SUPERSTAR five year old with your ability to sing all the countries in the middle east, south east Asia and all the territories in Canada. Rachel and Ruth still sing the 50 states song.

Makes me laugh to think about!!!
