Go Fish

Last night, my 11 year old son begged two of his older sisters to play Go Fish with him.

They said, “No, don’t ask again, and don’t come into our room.”

He went off to his room feeling lonely and dejected.

A few minutes later, one of those sisters walked by his room and peeked in.

There he was with a few cards in his hands, choking back tears, speaking to someone who wasn’t there…

“Do you have any five’s?”

He sets his cards down, picks up the other pile of cards, looks them over and replies out loud…

“No. Go fish.”

Poor kid. Maybe you could teach him "crazy 8's". It's a little more fun for adults to play and still easy enough for kids. At my last nanny job I taught the three year old to play it because I was his 'playmate' while his siblings were in school, and I was bored to tears with "Go Fish"!! I'd lay the cards on the table and 'walk through' the game with him, teaching him strategy as well as the rules. I remember the Dad looking askance when he saw me teaching a card game and I pointed out that it was not only fun, but great for teaching number recognition, matching skills, strategy and planning ahead. He was impressed and never objected again!

Crazy 8's is great! His sisters also play war with him sometimes. A no brainer!

That's depressing :( did your daughter who spied on him offer to play with him after seeing him like that?! That's what I would've done.

No, I didn't know anything about it until the next day. He snapped out of his sadness though and is none the worse. God has given him a very resilient spirit!!
(and usually his sisters do play with him)

Ryan is such a good sport for having 5 older sisters and no brothers!

What did you make for breakfast? Moose berry pancakes?

Not quite. I made some eggs, cut up strawberries and kiwi, and served him some orange juice. I just can't make mooseberry pancakes without you.
