A Matter of Perspective

Today, I took my 9 year old son on a little date. Just him and me. He chose Taco Bell.

“I’d like to have 10 soft tacos, please,” he said to me.

“Well, let’s start with 4 and see how you do with that.”

Just before we ate I said, “I am so very, very grateful that God has given us food to eat and that we never ever have to be hungry.” ( I was hoping to help him see how blessed we are.)

Without blinking an eye he replied, “Well, I was hungry in church today.”

Hmmm...I guess I still have my work cut out for me.

That's a nice idea, having some one on one time with your son.

I was one of six, and one of my favorite memories is Xmas shopping with just my mother and me. It was a big deal! We went into Boston on the train, shopped all morning, had lunch in the cafeteria, shopped some more, then carried all our purchases home! In the cafeteria, after eating my sandwich, my Mom said I could have dessert. I couldn't decide between pie and ice cream. The waitress said "you can have pie a la mode". When I asked what it was, she explained you could get your favorite pie with your favorite ice cream, so I ordered lemon meringue pie and pistachio ice cream. She asked "Are you sure??" Yes. When it arrived, I said with dismay, "Nobody told me you were going to put it on TOP!!"

That's so funny! I love lemon meringue pie and I love pistachio ice cream...but if they were served to me that way, I be dismayed, too!!

Bless his heart! He's reasoning out life's situations. You sound like a great mom!! My son, bless him, took me out for breakfast before church, and for Starbucks after church, followed by a great big hug.

Children are God's gifts. :)

How many tacos did he end up eating?

Only two! Ruth ate the rest.

So what all did Ruth eat?

She got stuck with left overs because she wasn't with us.

The honesty of a child... i love hearing such truth. I think God must chuckle at this little one at least daily, if not hourly.

Yes, hourly.

This week we're dealing with stealing. Everytime he hears the ice cream man's music coming up the street, he starts running around the house looking for money. He doesn't ask. He just grabs the money and runs. Today he helped himself to Ruth's money.

I told him, "Ryan, that's called stealing. That's not right."

His reply, "But it's the ice cream man! Besides, I brought back the change."

More work to be done...
(but that goes for all us, doesn't it?)
