Thirty Minutes Before Noon

Photobucket

Today, while teaching my 11 year old son his math lesson we came upon this question:

What time is thirty minutes before noon?

He thought long and hard (math isn’t his favorite subject) then dead seriously answered…

Lunch time?

LOL!! We made paper 'clocks' (with a paper plate and paper hands attached with a brad) when my kids were learning and practicing. They enjoyed moving the hands and asking me "What time is this? And this? And this?". I think it helped a lot for them to be able to 'be the teacher' for a little bit. It's one of those things that seems so hard to them until one day it just 'clicks'. I taught them with just ONE hand at first (the hour hand), which is the easy part. Then I taught them about counting every five minutes as the 'big hand' moved. Good luck! He'll get it!

I love the paper plate idea. I think I'll go for it!

So do I. Life is not about silly numbers. It's about love and music and tasty food.
