Writer's Block: Horrible bosses

Who was the worst boss you’ve ever had? Did you ever get your revenge?

My answer today will not be about my worst boss ever. It will be about the way God can work in the heart of any boss – good or bad….

I was 6 months pregnant with my fourth child, working 24 hours a week in an ER in order to get insurance benefits (my husband was a full time student at the time).

Then came discouraging news through the grapevine …My boss was looking for a way to get rid of me.

I racked my brain to figure out why. The only thing I came up with was I was a Christian. She was not.

I asked a few people to join me in praying that God would change the heart of my boss and grant me favor so I could remain employed until my delivery date.

By the grace of God, I made it to my due date, and when my maternity leave was over I went to her office to deliver my letter of resignation.

She looked at me with the envelope in hand and said, “Please tell me that’s not your resignation.”

”Yes, it is and I’d like to thank you for the wonderful opportunity of allowing me to work here for three years.”

She replied, “Please don’t leave. I will let you name your days and hours and keep your full time benefits even if you only work 16 hours a week.”

I was shocked (to put it mildly,) and I gratefully accepted her offer to stay.

When God says that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think…

He means it!

Wow! That's pretty awesome!!

After being a SAHM for many years, I found myself needing a job and income. My kids, young teens, started going to a Boys and Girls Club after school so that I could look for work. While dropping them off, I told the woman in charge about needing a job. She asked what kind of work. I explained that all I really knew was raising kids!! She said "Great! I'm only working here to help out the director until he can find someone!" Not only did she get me an interview and sing my praises, but she insisted that he pay me what I was making on my occasional substitute teacher jobs!! God is good!

You're going to have lots of your own nursing stories one day. God is going to use you to change the world.
